summer learning journey activity 2 rights and wrongs

How many years more until you reach 25? At the moment i am ten years old and Dr Jessa Rodgers was 25 years old when she won the NAIDOC youth of the year award so if I will be the same age as Dr Jessa when she get her award it will be 15 years more to wait.

solution is take away 10 from 25 which equals 15
              25 ( age of Dr Jessa )
            - 10 ( my current age )
       =     15 ( years more to wait until i am 25 )

how many more years until your 25 and how would you show the maths solution?

summer learning journey week 2 activity 1 playing favourites

This week I have to share what are my 3 favourite things that I want to do and they are; playing the ukulele because I like music. 2 years ago when I was 8 or 9 I started playing the ukulele at my school ukulele club. I was one of the first members. Then after a year joining the ukulele club we went to join this event called strum, strike and blow and there were over thousand kids performing. The next year my ukulele club joined again that same event and I got an award for participating. My second favourite things s reading books, I have been reading books since I was 2 or 3 years old. My parents always say that I am good in reading and I think I am, but I know I can get better than I am right now. My third favourite thing is riding my bike, I was so happy to receive my new bike as my Christmas present.  I have been riding my bike almost every day, I go to the park and to lots of places near my house. It was so fun riding my new bike.

how about you, what are your three favourite things and why you love doing them?

summer learning journey activity 2 my culture

My culture is very mixed with other cultures, on my mum side she have Chines,Filipino and Spanish. My mums family are really close knit, even their dead loved ones they still visit them every week at the cemetery and always remember their death anniversary by offering a mass. Every 2 or 3 years We go to the Philippines for a holiday, 3 years ago we went to the Philippines for a Christmas vacation and on Christmas day my mum wake me up at 7:00 AM to give the candy canes and chocolates that we bought from New Zealand to the less fortunate kids that will go to every house in the neighbour hood to ask for money or lollies as their Christmas gift and  my family went to mass on that day. The New Year celebration is so different from New Zealand. People are still awake at midnight to meet the New Year by having lots of yummy food that the family eat together at midnight and we did fire works and party horns to make some noises It was my first Christmas and New Year experience and it was a memorable  moment of my life. There's also a big festival that I witnessed, it was the feast of Santo Nino the patron saint of Cebu City. Thousands of people from all over Philippines and other countries came to join the fiesta especially the sinulog where the people dancing on the street to honour the infant Jesus. I really miss that event of my life because I really enjoyed and had lots of fun. While on my dad side not much to tell except that he has a mixture of Danish and English and sadly my grandparents  were dead and my father only had one bother with no kids. I seldom see my uncle but every now and then we talk on the phone.

what country are you mixed with and what does your family do from were you or your parents are from?
